How to Draw A Watering Can

Step 1

In this first step of our guide to drawing a watering can, we’ll start very simply. This tool usually has a large rounded handle, making it easier to pour from any angle.

It is also what we will draw first in this step of our How to Draw a watering can guide.

To do this, we draw two relatively large parallel curved lines.

A gap at both ends of this handle will later connect to the body of the watering can. Once it looks like our reference image, move on to step 2!

Step 2

You drew this watering can, and now let’s start with the body.

This watering can body has a slightly rectangular wave design that we show in our reference image.

Connect the bottom edge of the handle to the left side using some straighter lines for the sides of the can.

Next, draw some rounded lines for the top and mouth of the watering can, and then draw the base.

The right edge has a gap; we will attach the spout later in the instructions. Now let’s move to step 3!

Step 3

We’ll start pouring the glass soon, but let’s prepare for this critical aspect by adding some small details in this step of our how-to draw a watering can guide.

First, we’ll add some simple lines to help define the body of the can.

Add a vertical line near the left edge of the can, then a slightly curved horizontal line near the top.

Next, to complete this step, we’ll add a small plastic section supporting the spout arm. You can draw this section with some simple lines on the right side where the spout arm will start.

Step 4

In this fourth part of the watering can drawing, we’ll start drawing the arm of the spout.

These arms are slightly curved sometimes, but what we will draw for this design will be straight and stiff.

You can extend a few straight, smooth stripes at an angle to the space vacated on the flank of the watering can.

Finally, complete this step by adding more lines at the end to draw an area of the border where the opening will be added, along with all the final details in the next step.

Step 5

You are now ready to satisfy the final details of the drawing, so you are prepared for the last step of this watering can sketching tutorial.

For the spout, draw a circle with a line around the outer perimeter. You can then connect it to another line at the arm end of the spout.

Once this outline is drawn, you can add points for the holes where the water will come out.

Next, add a few simple lines across the watering can to add extra depth to the design, then finish with any additional finishing details you’d like to add!

Step 6

This final step in drawing the watering can finish you off with some color!

Watering cans are usually made of plastic, meaning they come in almost every color you can think of.

In our example image, we kept things subtle by using light shades of blue and gray to give the watering can a cooler look.

You could go for a few similar colors but also make them bright and bold!
